When Souma Kazuya was summoned to another world to become a hero, he didn't go on an adventure, he became the king of Elfrieden and took to governing instead. Using knowledge from his old world, Souma began to push forward reforms every day, but eventually there came a time when he would have to face the general of the army, Georg Carmine, who refused to soften his rebellious stance. When the plans of the neighboring Principality of Amidonia get involved, things move from the political arena to the military one.
"Now, let the subjugation war begin!"
Will Souma be able to safely bring this war to a conclusion?!
This amazing transferred-to-another-world internal-politics fantasy series is on its second volume!
How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Volume 2 eBook Dojyomaru Fuyuyuki Sean McCann
All the elements of the first book are honed in this sequel, and we get a lot more complexity.-Dealing with the rebellious dukes & invasion from a foreign country
-Less emphasis on economics, more on battle strategy and tactics (shame we couldn't get both)
-Teasers for a few new adds to the harem, but no real development
-A few solid surprises to this one in how things play out tactic / strategic wise
-With the broader-scale action, some people fade into the background and just perform their role (dark elves, his advisor, Tomoe, etc.)
-I like how sometimes the narrative speaks of the way the far future sees the same events historically
-Good solid ending with nice setup for next book
I would like to have seen more economics involved, but this stood very well on it's own. Was not just a rinse & repeat of the first book.

How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom Volume 2 eBook Dojyomaru Fuyuyuki Sean McCann Reviews
The story has definitely progressed very well since the first novel. Can't wait to see all the new characters hinted at to have a bigger role to play. The existing characters have been fleshing out well so far I think, can't wait to see how they will change in the future
I continue to be impressed by the creativity that the author shows in making his plot and navigating challenges to the MC's rule. He definitely has ideals on proper governance over a kingdom and he is not shy in pushing his case. Highly recommended read.
If you liked the first volume as much as I did, you should know that the lighthearted nature is no longer here. This volume covers what is known as the Subjugation Arc, which follows Souma and the many important political and military figures during the conflict within his country and with the neighbouring country that wants to bring his country to ruin and reclaim their lost lands from a previous war. This volume is more serious and at times depressing compared to the first volume, which had a hopeful and mostly positive tone to it.
In the first volume, I viewed Souma as what is known as a “flat character”, a character who hardly changes throughout the story. Yet, I think that is what made him a better character in the end. And by the end of this volume, I realized that it wasn’t that he was a flat character, but that he was just hiding his changes under all of his impressive accomplishments. I find it hard to put into words what I truly love about Souma, the other characters, or the story in general, but obviously something drew me in. I DID read the whole story all in one setting after all! I highly recommend this series, because it has so much to offer! I really hope that this gets an anime, or at least a manga, because I truly believe that this story deserves it.
Interesting twist to the MC being an all powerful hero, this MC is more of a "thinker" than a smash and grab kind of guy. It is a good book that will allow you to see from a perspective of someone who has to make hard decisions and think 5 steps ahead of everyone else. It also has a bit of Harem, but doesn't focus on it much.
I have to give the author a few nods. He snuck in a couple of twists that impressed me. They weren't completely out of left field, but they definitely aren't commonly used.
He also brought in a lot more action as the hero and his harem start their pushback against first the rebellious nobles and then against the neighboring kingdom they knew would attempt to conquer them
It's light, its fun, but it isn't all that memorable. I'd say this was a bit better than volume 1, but it still had enough flaws that I can't give it 4 stars.
This series continues to impress me as the story further gets fleshed out. The first volume introduced the more administrative nature of running a kingdom by following concepts such as agriculture, emergency response, and debt. This volume shows a more militaristic and diplomatic approach to saving the country that the MC was forcibly summoned to. However, by no means does this detract from the story but rather adds to it, making this surprising series even better. The author also throws in a few twists and turns that honestly surprised me as well as developing a few of the major characters and adding a few new enjoyable characters. Much like the first novel, this volume left me wanting more and eagerly waiting for the next in this wonderful series.
